Yesterday’s Lunar New Year Community Celebration was a resounding success, bringing together 400 students and their families from across the four RGS group of schools. The evening vibrant and uplifting, filled with colour, energy and a strong sense of community spirit.

Guests enjoyed a wonderful selection of oriental food and refreshments, which were warmly received and added greatly to the festive atmosphere. The programme of performances was equally impressive. Our 147 student performers showcased remarkable talent across a wide range of acts, including dragon and lion dances, choir and ensemble performances, vocal duets, martial arts, stand-up comedy, jazz, traditional Chinese instrumental music, and folk dance. The enthusiasm and professionalism displayed truly lifted the roof.

We were also honoured to welcome the internationally renowned Chinese musician Ms Qiu, whose erhu performance captivated the audience, and Mr Kong, the 79th-generation direct descendant of Confucius, who delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking address.

A special highlight of the evening was the opportunity to gain insight into developments within our RGS international schools. Through shared updates and presentations, we strengthened our global connections and celebrated the truly international outlook of our community.

Throughout the evening, our Mandarin students confidently demonstrated their impressive language skills through singing and talk-show presentations. The joy and excitement shared by performers and audience alike were palpable, reflecting the spirit of global awareness, inclusion and the celebration of world cultures that lies at the heart of our school community.

Special recognition must also go to our Sixth Form leaders, whose dedication and professionalism exemplified the leadership values of RGS and contributed significantly to the smooth running of the event.

It was a truly memorable celebration and a proud moment for our whole community.

Happy Lunar New Year of the Horse!
